Eau Claire, WI (pop. 58,000) Whatever your favorite recreational activities, chances are the opportunity to pursue them will be no more than minutes away. Plenty of opportunities to be a participant. Or, if you prefer, enjoy them as a spectator. Either way, the important thing is that the options are all here, ready for you to choose.
Fishing, boating, swimming and a variety of other water activities are daily summer fare at Lake Menomin, Half Moon Lake, Dells Pond, Lake Wissota, Lake Altoona and 250 other smaller lakes. Dozens of public parks are available to be enjoyed throughout t he CHIPPEWA VALLEY, many of which have their own swimming beach, picnic areas, horseshoe and tennis courts and softball and football fields. Some of Wisconsin's most beautiful state parks - Lake Wissota, Brunet Island, Hoffman Hills Recreation Area - ar e located in the Valley.
The Chippewa River State Trail connects with the Red Cedar State Trail to link the Cities of Menomonie and Eau Claire in a scenic river corridor trail system. Plans are currently underway for the development of an urban trail extension connecting Eau Cla ire and Chippewa Falls. This segment along with the future development of the Old Abe Trail between Chippewa Falls and Cornell will provide a scenic recreational trail system of approximately 70 miles through the heart of the CHIPPEWA VALLEY.
The area also provides many beautiful and challenging public and private golf courses. There are facilities for archery, hockey, racquetball and indoor tennis. Snowmobile and cross-county ski trails are in abundance for winter activity as well.
History is here in such forms as the Paul Bunyan Logging Camp, the Chippewa Valley Museum, the Dunn County Heritage Center and many National Register historic districts. Mabel Tainter Theater, Wilson Place Museum, Cook-Rutledge House, Leinenkugel's Brewe ry and the Pioneer Block are just a few of the CHIPPEWA VALLEY'S historic landmarks.
The CHIPPEWA VALLEY has many wonderful cultural activities. UW-Eau Claire, UW-Stout, the Mabel Tainter Theater and Eau Claire's Regional Arts Center host performing arts events as well as sponsoring their own theatrical productions. The University Forum Series at UW-Eau Claire and UW-Stout have brought into the CHIPPEWA VALLEY some of the world's outstanding and distinguished speakers. The Foster Art Gallery at UW-Eau Claire and Furlong Gallery at UW-Stout sponsor showings of national and local artists. Dinner theaters, live musi c night spots, approximately 20 movie theaters, the UW foreign film series and local community symphonies round out the cultural and social happenings of the CHIPPEWA VALLEY.
Come to visit. Come to stay. Natural beauty is here in an uncrowded area where the four seasons reveal themselves at their very best. And the quality of life you want is yours here - in Wisconsin's CHIPPEWA VALLEY.
