Thoughts on Law vs Lawlessness #2
Lawlessness: What does Christianity Teach? "The Law is nailed to the Cross. It is done away with." But Look what Christ had to say about it. Did he say "you don't have to do it anymore?"
Mat 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. If fact, you cas go back to the 10 Commandments and; what is the first one?. ...You shall have no other gods before Me... Why? Because he is very jealous .
He doesn't want any one else to get in the way of the personal relationship. Nothing between our personal relationship to the father. "the will of My Father..." is those that keep the laws.
Lets go back and look at the differences.
The Covenant with Abraham
Concerning the covenant with Abraham, which the world's teachers discusses first, they says, "The first thing we notice about the covenant with Abraham is that it was unconditional" . To back up this statement, they quotes Genesis 15:6 where we read"And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness."
Teachers claims that means the covenant God made with Abraham was "unconditional." But is that true? Is that what this verse really says? Not at all. Gods Word does not contradict itself
(John 10:35). All Scripture is truth. John 10:35 "If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and
the Scripture cannot be broken),...
(John 17:17). Thy word is truth....
The truth is, there were MANY conditions to the covenant God made with Abraham. Let s
notice the proof!
In Genesis 12:1 God provides the first condition. He said to Abram: "Get thee out of thy country . . . unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee . . . "(Gen.12:1-2). We read, "So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him" (v.4). Notice! He obeyed Gods command! This was most definitely a conditional promise. If Abraham had not left the land of Babylon, he would have disqualified and not received the promise! There can be NO QUESTION but that there were clear cut conditions to Gods promise!
But notice. Further conditions are spelled out in Genesis 17. God says to Abraham, "I am the Almighty God: Walk before me, and be thou perfect. And I will make my covenant with thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly . . . This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; every man child among you shall be circumcised"
(Gen.17:1-10). Gen 17:1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, "I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.Number oneAbraham is to walk before God, that is, in His presence, conscious of His presence; and
number twohe is to become "perfect." How do we become "perfect" in Gods sight? The Hebrew word is tamiym, and means "entire," or "without blemish, complete, full, perfect, sound, without spot, undefiled, upright, whole" (Strongs Concordance, #8549). I ask you sincerelydoes this sound as if there were "no conditions" to Gods covenant with Abraham? Such a statement, as this worlds false educators make, is utter nonsense! The Word of God disproves it totally!
Furthermore, one of the conditions God made to Abraham was that the male children of him and his descendants were to be circumcised. That is another "condition." But there is much more "proof." In Genesis 22, God commanded Abraham to take his son Isaac and sacrifice him for a burnt offering on Mount Moriah (Gen.22:1-2). We find that Abraham got up early to obey Gods command, and traveled to the appointed spot (vs.3-10), and proceeded to obey God, when God interrupted him and told him it was not necessary, but that this was a "test" of obedience (verses 11-12). He said, "For now I know that you fear God" (v.12). God then said, "For because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That is blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thee . . ." (vs.15-18).
NoticeGod confirmed His promise, originally made in Genesis 12, and even added to it, because of Abrahams actions, his works, which demonstrated his faith! God later confirmed this promise to Abrahams son Isaac, saying that He would bless and multiply his children, and make them a blessing throughout the world, and that the Messiah would come through his progeny (Gen.26:1-4) -- Why? "Because that Abraham OBEYED MY VOICE, and kept my charge, my COMMANDMENTS, my STATUTES, and MY LAWS"
(Gen.26:5). Gen 26:5 "because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws."
And Christ instructs us to do that today.
Mat 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.Read that again! How clear! Gods promises were definitely CONDITIONAL. He blessed Abraham "BECAUSE"literally for the reason thatAbraham obeyed Him, kept his charge, as well as His commandments, and statutes, and laws! Does this sound like Abraham was justified by "faith" alone?
Faith alone was not enough. Abrahams faith was the kind of faith that led him to OBEY GOD and keep His Word faithfully. It was a "faithful faith." It was a faith evidenced by complete and total and enduring OBEDIENCE to God in every way!
We will dig deeper and provide more next time. This is developing nicely.
